William's 2nd Tour in Iraq
Just arriving and unloading all of their gear.
William on patrol.
Iraq Police...not bad vehicles the US gave them, huh?
One of several local markets (looks like a storage facility to me).
You can see goats hanging on the right. Most of the time these are black in color because they attract flies. How fortunate we are!!!
One-way bridge.
As you can see there is not much room for error. William is a vehicle commander of a stryker and one of the things he does is stand up out of the hatch and give the driver directions because there are no windows in the vehicles. Imagine relying on someone to tell you which way to turn while driving over a bridge blindfolded and you don't even have 6 inches of clearance on either side...not for me!
The stryker has the metal cage around it to help reduce the impact of a grenade or roadside bomb. They also have the bullet-proof glass on the top of the stryker for when they stand up out of the hatch.
This is the building where William lives currently.
The building was an old Iraqi building and they pretty much made rooms (dividers) out of plywood. This is the hallway.
This is William's half of the room. He shares the room with one of our friends which is nice. William hangs his poncho to reduce the amount of flies he sleeps with.
William's cot.
Back in November or December it was raining and William fell off the back ramp of the stryker because it was slippery. He thought he broke part of his foot but was able to have an x-ray taken in Kuwait after his R & R was over. Luckily it was just a bad sprain. It still bothers him but they gave him a brace to wear.
I can't even see an ankle there!
