Sunday's Trip to Wasilla and Back
Alaska's beauty is never ending...
Near Denali National Park.
The Nenana River. The rivers are still breaking up and you could see the ice and snow was still at least a couple feet thick.
It was so cold! For once I think William was actually colder than I was.
Yep, that's me in shorts and it's literally freezing outside. My pants don't fit over my cam boot.
The Alaska railroad in between Willow, AK and Wasilla, AK.
Beautiful mountains on the way back to Fairbanks.
The road was covered with a light dusting of fresh snow that covered a huge patch of ice that we hit. Let's just say we had angels watching over us!
The Savage River at Mile 15 in Denali National Park.
This is near the entrance to Denali. Amazing how there is two different seasons within 15 miles!
Iceworm Gulch. Back on Parks Hwy. headed home.

2-Week Follow Up
This is right after they removed the temporary cast. My 2 wk. old hairy man leg, lol!
I did some major convincing for this! I got everything I had hoped for today...no surgery needed at this point, a removable boot, and a letter allowing me to finish my confined water dives in the pool. I still have to be non-weight bearing on my left foot for at least 4 more weeks. I think the muscles in my leg are going to turn into Jello :-(

Test The Waters Open Water SCUBA Class
My handsome hubby getting ready to start his 3rd SCUBA class :-) One of the only good things about me breaking my foot was that I could take pictures of the class since I'm no longer in it.
The class getting their gear set up with a buddy. As a SCUBA diver you can never dive alone.
This has to be the nicest pool at a middle school ever!
Everyone getting ready to scissor kick in the pool individually.
Lots of bubbles. The majority of the class time takes place under water.
William is on the left. I'm so sad I couldn't finish this SCUBA class with William because of my broken foot. We're hoping the Dr. will write me a note saying I can finish the class with one leg. I already passed my swimming test so there is not much swimming left to do. Test The Waters said they could finish my confined water dives in 1 private lesson if they need to.

I Can't Believe I Broke My Foot!
I couldn't believe it...Thursday morning I was headed downstairs to the laundry room to switch everything over from the washer to the dryer. We live on the 3rd floor and as I was stepping off of the last step I rolled my left foot. I was really sore from exercise class on Monday and Wednesday and I think my muscles just gave out. I heard a bunch of stuff crack when it happened and it was all I could do to hold back tears it hurt so bad. I managed to switch the laundry out and headed slowly back upstairs. Thank goodness William came home for lunch so he could go rescue the laundry out of the dryer! It hurt to walk but as long as I was sitting and not moving my foot I was fine. I decided to make a Dr's. appt. for 8:00 on Friday morning just to have it looked at and see if I could start exercising again on Monday morning. Well, I wasn't so lucky. Turns out I broke my 5th metatarsal in my left foot near the base and the articulation (joint). I'm in a temporary cast for 2 weeks. In 2 weeks I go back and they take this cast off and take new x-rays. At that time they will evaluate for surgery if the swelling is gone and put a permanent cast on. Hopefully, I won't need surgery!!! I've been looking online to see healing times for this type break and someone wrote, "If you want to put a curse on someone, break their 5th metatarsal!" Seriously, this is crazy! It could take several months of being in a cast for this small bone to heal. It's only Day 1 and the cast makes me chlostrophobic! Plus, I CAN'T DO ANYTHING BUT PROP MY FOOT UP AND SIT ON THE SOFA! Even taking a bath last night was complicated and crutches are difficult. I guess my days of exercising, swimming, and scuba diving classes in AK are over :-( Poor William now has to go to work and come home and work here...cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, fetching stuff for me, etc. Poor Hubby! He will probably end up having to pack most of the apartment too depending on how long my bone wants to take to heal and when we are moving. Please pray that my precious 5th metatarsal will heal quickly, that the cast won't bother me too much, and that William can keep up with EVERYTHING!

Salazar Update and Happy Easter!
So sorry it's been a while since I've updated the blog. Life here in AK has been pretty uneventful the past month. William's work is pretty much the same and I'm still working on getting my Initial Dental Hygiene license in WA. I went to get fingerprinted a couple of weeks ago all to find out that I have almost no ridges on my fingers and that they will prob. decline my background checks and request new fingerprints because they look like smudges. My next and last step for the initial license is to take the WA State Drug and Law exam on April 29th. Once I pass and obtain the initial license there is a lot more I have to do within the next 18 months to get my permanent license in WA. I am definitely not looking forward to that but am so ready to start working again!
We did start our SCUBA diving lessons this past week and are hoping to take some underwater pictures while diving in the pool. Stay tuned, we shall see :-)
As for today...let's all remember the real reason we celebrate this day! Christ is risen! Christ paid the ultimate sacrifice for each and every one of our sins. We all have so much to be thankful for in just this one gift, the greatest gift of all, the gift of eternal life!

As I was headed out of the bedroom I noticed that the "Easter Bunny" left a trail of eggs leading to a hidden surprise in the living room. The eggs were all filled with Starburst jelly beans, yum! However, the "Easter Bunny's" wife failed this year and didn't get him anything for Easter :-( The past 2 years I have mailed him Easter baskets to Alaska and Iraq. This was our first Easter actually being together!

We were still tired even though we woke up at 11 AM. We stayed up until 3 AM watching movies and cooking.

The Easter bunny brought an egg dying kit! I have been begging for one for weeks and William seemed very disinterested...now I know why :-) He's so sneaky! He bought all of my Easter goodies when we went to Wasilla last month to pick up Sunny.

The beginning of Sunny's Easter photoshoot. She loves parsley!

When it's playtime Sunny loves to just lay down and look at us instead of actually playing.
